AC Milan Receive a Boost as Leon Goretzka Set to Leave Bayern Munich

AC Milan continue to plan carefully for the future, and encouraging news from Germany has strengthened their optimism. Despite a midfield that has performed impressively this season, the Rossoneri remain open to reinforcing the squad—especially with an eye on long-term stability.

The 2025/2026 campaign has been a promising one for Milan. Consistent performances have kept them firmly in the Serie A title race, with the club currently sitting second in the table on 47 points from 22 matches. They trail league leaders Inter Milan by just five points, while an unbeaten run of 21 Serie A games underlines the team’s growing maturity and balance.

Even so, Milan’s management is not standing still. Behind the scenes, the club is closely monitoring the transfer market ahead of the summer window, determined to maintain momentum and prepare for any possible changes within the squad.

Goretzka Emerges as a Midfield Target

On paper, Milan already boast a wealth of midfield options. Experienced figures like Luka Modrić and Adrien Rabiot provide control and intelligence, while players such as Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Ardon Jashari add energy and versatility.

However, uncertainty surrounds the futures of Fofana and Loftus-Cheek, both of whom have attracted interest from clubs outside Italy. That situation has prompted Milan to consider experienced alternatives, and one name has quickly risen to the top of their shortlist: Leon Goretzka.

Goretzka’s status at Bayern Munich has become increasingly unclear, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2026. This contractual timeline has opened the door to speculation—and opportunity.

Confirmation of a Summer Exit

Milan’s pursuit has now received a significant boost. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Goretzka will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, departing as a free agent.

“Leon Goretzka will leave FC Bayern in the summer as a free agent, not now,” Romano wrote on his X account. “His time at FC Bayern will end in the summer. After eight successful years, he will take a different path.”

Romano also cited confirmation from Bayern director Christoph Freund, who acknowledged that Goretzka’s chapter at the club is nearing its conclusion, while stressing that both sides remain focused on achieving success together in the final months.

For AC Milan, this development could be pivotal. A player of Goretzka’s experience, physical presence, and winning mentality would represent a major statement signing—especially on a free transfer. As the summer window approaches, the Rossoneri appear well-positioned to turn this opportunity into a decisive move for the future.
